Course Description
Choir is an elective in which the student will participate daily in singing. The student will be challenged to improve their singing abilities by using proper posture and breathing techniques. Students will be reading musical notation and applying the elements to performance pieces. Students will be challenged to begin sight-reading, singing with solfege, and count-singing. Students will be required to perform in concerts throught the year.
Meeting Times
During the first semester, chorus will meet everyday in the
auditorium. Concert band members will have chorus on days 2, 4, and 6 only. During the second semester, chorus will meet on days 2, 4, and 6 and alternate with physical education (except band members).
· Participation Grade - 10 daily points - 40% of final semester grade
Class Participation/Singing, Posture, Warm-up exercises, Sight Reading exercises, Intonation exercises, and performance music. Students will not be graded on how well they sing. Grades will strictly be based on participation and whether or not they strive to impove their skills. Students will be responsible for condition of music at the end of each semester. Fees will be assessed to any damaged music.

· Quizzes, Singing Tests, & Homework 20%
· Concert Performance - Attendance Required - 30% of final grade each semester. Students are required to be at every performance. Missing a concert will result in a "0" which will be 30% of the final grade for that semester. Missing a concert for an excused reason (medical, death in the family, etc.) will required an excused note (approved by the office) and a make-up assignment to replace that grade. Students will be notified of concert dates on the first day of each semester.
Required Concerts:
Christmas Concert: December 13th at 7 p.m. (Call time for students is 6:30)
Spring Concert: May 16th at 7 p.m. (Call time for students is 6:30)
Graduation (Seniors Only): June 4th
Christmas in the Park @ Little Buffalo (Mustang Chorale & Show Choir): TBA
County Chorus: January 18-19 (Concert at 2 pm)
Bacculareate (Seniors & Mustang Chorale)
Concert Attire:
All singers will wear black bottoms and white tops.
Men will also wear a tie, black socks, and shoes.
Women may wear pants or skirts and black dress shoes.
Please plan accordingly.
No Jeans or Sneakers.
School dress code applies to concerts.
