West Perry Middle School

Dear Parent,

Welcome to West Perry Middle School.  We are very proud of our middle school program.  We know that the move to middle school is not only an important event in your child’s life, but also in yours.  To help make this transition successful, our school provides a series of activities for our incoming students.  These activities help our new students get to know the school, the staff and the students coming from the other elementary buildings.

Our middle school philosophy of teaming, which results in small learning communities, provides a safe and productive environment for your child.  The teaching teams get to know each student on a personal level, helping each student to maximize their learning.  The team leader is an additional resource for parents and will coordinate communications between staff and parents when needed.

The role of the middle school is to help children make a successful transition through adolescence.  With the welfare of your child in mind, it is essential that we work together sharing the insights we have about adolescents.  We truly believe that when the family and school work together and support each other’s efforts, the best education can be provided for your child.

This year we have placed a special emphasis on eliminating bullying in our school.  We know that nationally acts of bullying increases through the elementary grades and peaks through the middle school years.  Our school needs to be a safe haven for our students.  Through our programs this year we hope to educate everyone, students, parents and staff – the instigator to the victim – about what constitutes bullying, its causes and its consequences. We will be providing parents with several handouts and will be placing additional resources on our website to help you support your child.

We look forward to getting to know your child and you better.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Bernard Danko

Principal
