In conjunction with our neighboring school districts, several workshops are planned for special education parents throughout the 2019-2020 school year.  Please join us for these interesting and informative evenings.

February 5, 2020
“OVR 101”

What is the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation?
How can they help my child transition from high school to their ultimate employment goal?
What services can OVR provide that supplements my child’s learning?
Will my child qualify for OVR services?

The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation is a state agency that helps individuals with disabilities that present substantial obstacles to successful employment, yet that person with a disability wants to work. Answers to these questions and more will be discussed at the OVR 101 workshop.

March 11, 2020
“Social Emotional Learning at Home:  Strategies for Parents”

This session will focus on how parents and guardians can help foster social emotional growth in the home setting.  Specifically, presenters will address how to explicitly teach and model behavioral and social/emotional skills, foster feeling recognition and emotional-regulation, and utilize everyday events and activities as learning opportunities with your child.

“Stress and Anxiety:  Supporting our Students”

Session will provide information on how stress and anxiety presents in students across the developmental spectrum and will provide participants with strategies to help support and combat both.

“Opportunities and Wellness Fair”

 Attendees will be able to network and connect with representatives from various transition/mental health agencies, employers, universities, technical/trade schools, and apprenticeship programs.  The goal of the evening is to assist the participants in transitioning from high school to their next phase in life.
