Blain Elementary

field day There is an art of reading, FH
as well as an art of thinking,
and an art of writing.

I am pleased to welcome you again to Mrs. Z's web page!  First, let me share with you that I have always wanted to be an elementary school teacher.  It has been my lifelong goal.  I finally met my dream, after raising my family, and it was well worth it!  I love teaching and I love being at Blain.  Besides being at the beach with my family and at home with my  pugs there is no place I would rather be.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Education from Penn State University and am constantly continuing my education.  I also have a Masters Degree in Education/Literacy from the University of New England.  I substituted within the WP School District for a few years before finally obtaining this 4th grade position.  I have worked in all the elementary buildings within WP, as well as teaching learning support students, middle school students and life skills students as a long term substitute.  I enjoy working with all types of learners, and have found my experiences to be invaluable.

In addition to my homeroom, I teach Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies and math, as well as formerly advised the Blain Student Council.  Reading and writing are great passions of mine.  There has not been a time in my life when I do not remember reading, or being read to.  In fact, some of my earliest memories are of my grandma sitting at her cozy kitchen table, with me in her lap, reading the Sunday comics to me.  I am ever grateful to her for instilling the love of learning, reading, writing and kids within me.

Therefore, you will understand when I emphasize the importance of being a good reader, which includes comprehending what is read.  I believe reading is the back bone of life.  Every person should have the ability to read and understand.  And, every person can be taught to read.  It takes practice.  Reading is a life skill that is needed in every facet of life.  Please encourage your child to read every day, even if it is the comics, the cereal box, or road signs and billboards along life's journey.

There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island.

If I had a tale that I could tell you,
'd tell a tale sure to make you smile.
If I had a wish that I could wish for you,
I'd make a wish for sunshine all the while.
